How to Find Your Body Type

Your body type is based on proportions, not weight or size. Two people can wear the same size and have completely different body types.

Look at Your Proportions

Stand in front of a mirror wearing fitted clothing or underwear. Notice the relationship between:

  • Shoulders

  • Waist

  • Hips / Glutes

You can also measure:

  • Shoulders: across the widest part

  • Waist: smallest part of your waist

  • Hips: widest part of hips or glutes

Compare which areas are wider, narrower, or balanced.

  • Hourglass

Balanced shoulders and hips with a defined waist

    Characteristics:

    • Bust and hips are similar in width

    • Waist is clearly smaller

    • Curves are evenly distributed

    Best focus:

Waist-cinching styles that do not compress hips or glutes.

  • Pear

    Hips wider than shoulders

    Characteristics:

    • Fuller hips and thighs

    • Smaller bust or shoulders

    • Waist may still be defined

    Best focus:

Strong waist control with hip-friendly or curvy cuts that allow room for the lower body.

  • Inverted Triangle

    Shoulders wider than hips

    Characteristics:

    • Broad shoulders or bust

    • Narrower hips and glutes

    • Weight carried more on top

    Best focus:

Comfortable waist shaping with less restrictive hip compression to balance proportions.

  • Apple

Fuller midsection with less waist definition

    Characteristics:

    • Weight carried in the tummy

    • Waist blends into hips

    • Legs may be slimmer

    Best focus:

Strong abdominal and back smoothing, high-back coverage, and supportive compression.

  • Rectangle

Shoulders, waist, and hips are similar in width

    Characteristics:

    • Little natural waist definition

    • Straight or athletic silhouette

    • Curves are minimal

    Best focus:

Structured styles with boning or firm compression to create waist definition.

Important Notes

  • Many bodies fall between two body types — that’s completely normal

  • Body type can change with weight changes, pregnancy, or surgery

  • The goal is enhancement and comfort, not forcing your body into a shape
